This research focuses upon the evolution of the legal professions, particularly over the past thirty years, and the transformations it will undergo in the future. It examines issues such as billing practices for legal services, the regulation of the professions, the impact of technologies on professionals’ work, the management of legal services providers, and the consequences of the transformation of the professions on university and vocational training.  It resorts to  a socio-legal approach to study the changing conditions for the practice of law and their impact on the professional identities of law practitioners, legal training and the regulation of the legal professions.

The projects currently under way in this stream focus on Canadian lawyers and Quebec notaries.
